Welcome

Welcome to the International Junk Music Chain blog. This blog is designed to allow those involved with the International Junk Music Chain to share their experiences and communicate with each other and the wider world about this exciting project.

How it all started....

The International Junk Music Chain Project started in March 2011.  David Carne, the School Business Manager at Chuckery Primary School met Judy Westwater at an event in the Wirral, UK and during a discussion they got talking about Junk Music which the Pegasus Children's Trust was using to develop the skills of Street Children in South Africa.  Between them David and Judy agreed that the Children at Chuckery Primary School would make Junk Instruments and perform alongside a video of Street Children in South Africa.

In March 2011 Chuckery Primary School held a week of Junk Music workshops, culminating in a morning of performances which Judy Westwater attended.  The school held a non-uniform day to raise money for the Pegasus Children's Trust and invited parents to come and see their performances.  David worked alongside Rachel Buckingham from the Heartlands Academy in Birmingham to involve year 12 pupils in assisting the pupils at Chuckery in their music making efforts.

Meanwhile David was successful in gaining some Comenius funding to undertake a visit to Brasov in Romania.  While there he met with Carmen Tanasescu from their Brasovian Inspectorate of Schools and they began discussing environmental projects.  David mentioned to Carmen the work Chuckery was doing with Junk Music and immediately a link was made with Romania.
